For this project, we had to draw a picture. The catch was that it all had to be one line, and you had to switch colors every time the lines crossed! I drew a picture of a waterfall with rocks and moss in the background. I thought this was going to be hard at first, but I finished the outline on the first day and I was super excited to start coloring it. As you can see in the picture below, I was very O.C.D. about the way I colored everything in, especially the water and the rocks. I was extremely excited about doing this project because my favorite material to do art in is markers, and I knew I was going to be able to use them. I also love coloring and filling in spaces, so I put a ton of effort into my piece. The paper we drew on was 24" by 36", so it was a pretty big surface to have to fill. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and it helped me realize that not all of my art has to be small, and I can create beautiful art on huge surfaces.
Chiaroscuro (charcoal drawings)
This project was not my favorite, but it was a really good learning experience. We had to choose a picture that was black and white and do it in charcoal. I've used charcoal a couple times before, but not this intensely and never for this long. I chose to draw my friend Annika, and I think it turned out pretty well seeing as I haven't used charcoal since 6th grade! The size of the paper we used was 12" by 18", which I really liked because we had to make the pictures really big and noticeable. If I could, I would fix some parts of my picture because some of the proportions are a little off, and some of the shadows are slightly bigger and/or smaller.
This is a slideshow showing my reference photo and my drawing (please note that the photo I was using was in black and white, not color).
zentagles
This is my favorite project we've done in this class, and I'm really happy it's the one we finished with. The point of the project was to draw a picture and either do zentangles in or around the subject. I didn't know what to do so I talked to my art teacher and she said it was fine if I just did a bunch of different zentangles. In the end I just sectioned off a piece of paper and did different doodles in each section, and I think it turned out really well. This was a very easy project for me because this is the kind of art I usually do, so I ended up finishing it in two days. I definitely put a lot of effort into in and I had a really fun time with it.
