This week we are going to different jobs and companies and seeing what they do for work. Different groups of students are going to different places, and I am going to help Local First. We are going to see what they do everyday and see what goes into their business. I'm looking forward to do this because I think it will be extremely helpful to help see what goes into a business and what is important to have and do.
Jobs to consider
To help us prepare for the future, we took a quiz to see what type of career we would do the best in on Naviance.com, according to how much we wanted to do sustain jobs. For example, the quiz asked if we wanted to work on kitchen cabinets. So you would choose "Like", "Not Sure", or "Dislike", and based on your results they gave you a list of careers that they thought would interest you. These were my results:

Project reflection
For Sophomore Inspire Week, we all went to different businesses in Durango and learned about what they did. I was working with Local First and we learned about why it is important to buy locally, rather than shopping off of Amazon, for example. I thought it was pretty interesting, but I was very excited about it at first. We were only able to do this for two days (Wednesday and Thursday) which was sort of stressful because we had to make two advertisements (one for the coupon book Local First makes and the other for a company we found in the coupon book) and make a video and small presentation. The first day we were there we learned a little bit about marketing and when the best time of day and week is the smartest to post an ad on. After that, we split into three groups, each having three people in them, and wrote down different groups of people on a whiteboard. For example, we thought of high schoolers, elderly people, families with low income, single parents, and many more. We then combined those groups of people and got to choose who we wanted to market our advertisements towards. I worked with Cormac Gardner and Ethan Petitt, and we made an ad The Mailroom that was focused towards retired people and people with lower income. On the second day, we went to the businesses we were advertising and took pictures of them (with their permission) to be placed on the ad. At 1:00 p.m. on Thursday we presented our ads to the people who worked for Local First and got their opinions on our work. For about an hour and a half we fixed our ads and sent them to a lady Kiki who taught us about Local First and the things they do.
